He mentions enjoying "The Razor's Edge" (published the same year as this book and draws attention to pages 68-69: "my best poem dedicated to you." Pedro Juan Labarthe López de Victoria (1905-1966) was a Puerto Rican poet, journalist, essayist, and novelist. This is a seemingly very scarce book.

First Edition. First printing. One of 500 copies printed. Warmly inscribed in ink on front endpaper: "Para mi nueva y querida amiga Dale Gruner," datemarked "VIlla San Antonio, Lake Bloomington, Hudson, Illinois - Aug. 30, 1961." Mild external toning and soil; spine darkened, front hinge slilghtly over-opened; still a sound and clean, Very Good copy. Text in Spanish. Late collection of poems by Labarthe (1905-1966), a Puerto-Rican born poet and novelist, most of whose career was spent in the United States; he was a graduate of Columbia University and head of the Spanish Department at Pennsylvania Women's College through the 1940s. Something of a public intellectual, Labarthe lectured widely on U.S.-Latin American relations; in 1947 the editors of Dial Press named him one of the 100 "outstanding living writers in the world." The only definite reference we have been able to make to Ms. Gruner is as a 1961 graduate of Wellesley College.
