One of the earliest and certainly youngest suppliers of all sorts of naturalist's supplies, especially bird eggs, launched a monthly publication called The Oologist in 1884. Doctor Lattin gave it all up in favor of the practice of medicine and surgery. Unopened. Large sheet folded twice to make 8 pages. No copies found in OCLC. Boston, Mass.: 409 Washington St. [Undated, c. 1880s]. 9 ½ x 6 ¼ inches. 4pp. Webster, a respected taxidermist, was the owner of a well-known naturalists' supply depot and a publisher in ornithological material including catalogs advertising his stock. Creased at folds with one-inch separations at edges of folds. Illustrated front cover, advertising for William Niven of 139-741 Broadway of New York, dealer in Indian relics, American gems, arrow heads, fossils and Arizona petrified wood. Stanton Sawyer, Garland, Maine. 1890. 8 x 5 inches. 4pp. By the time of his death at age 98, Doctor Henry Stanton Sawyer, an optometrist, state representative, ornithologist and a published song writer, had 9 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. He practiced optometry until his retirement at age 92. A lifelong resident of Garland, Maine, he was a holder of the Boston Post cane. OCLC has no record of this item. Webster was not new to publishing; his father, W.B. Webster was the publisher of Iowa's Cresco Republican and young Edward spent much of his free time helping his father in the print shop.
