Diese Studie stellt die überarbeitete Fassung einer früheren Energieanalyse des Autors dar, die unter dem Titel "Tussen kernenergie en kolen, een analyse" 1980 in den Nederlanden erschien. Auch nach dem Beinahe-GAU 2006 in einem schwedischen Kraftwerk, der Serie von Pannen und Störfällen in den AKW s Brunsbüttel und Krümmel, der Vertuschungs- und Verharmlosungspolitik durch die Betreiber wie den Stromkonzern Vattenfall sowie angesichts der von Sicherheitspolitikern sonst gerne und häufig beschworenen wachsenden Gefahr terroristischer Angriffe halten viele Politiker an einem Ausbau der Atomenergie fest.
