The essays cover diverse topics dating from as early as 1965, including both non-fiction and fiction, along with snipes at his contemporaries John Updike, Norman Mailer and John Irving. The upper board of this copy also features a pasted b&w photo of the former President in a pensive mood--i.e, with his chin on his closed hand. The as new contents reference the First Edition of the original Bulfinch Press edition. Laid in is an unused Easton Press bookplate. A close inspection from certain angles does reveal a faint scratch on the fore edge gilt, but this is minor.
