Studium in Düsseldorf an einer privaten Kunstschule und an der Kunstgewerbeschule. 1916 Hagen, damals in der Region bekannt für moderne Kunst, mit Ausstellungsbeteiligung im Folkwang-Museum. Begegnung mit C. Rohlfs (1849-1938) und der Bildhauerin Milly Steger (1881-1948). Seit 1917 in Hannover ansässig, begann ihre fast 30jährige Tätigkeit für den Gebäckhersteller Bahlsen, zunächst für die Ausgestaltung des Firmengebäudes mit Glasfenstern und Wandbildern, später als Designerin und Graphikerin. Seit 1920 Atelier in Berlin, Mitglied des Werkbund" und der Novembergruppe". Hier Wahl des Vornamens nach französischer Cognacmarke. Beeinflussung durch Graphik der Künstlergruppe Brücke", Förderung durch M. Pechstein (1881-1955) und K. Schmidt-Rottluff (1884-1976). Heirat mit Malerkollegen Robert W. Huth (1890-1977), Scheidung nach drei Jahren. Sommermonate Aufenthalt in Pommern, dort entstehen Werke von Bäuerinnen und Fischern. Reise nach Italien in Begleitung von Wilhelm und Cäcilie Valentiner. Seit Ende der 1920er Jahre Serie von Blumen- und Früchtestilleben und zahlreiche, im Stil der Neuen Sachlichkeit gemalte Porträts aus ihrem Freundeskreis der Berliner Kunstszene (z.B. Tilla Durieux, Herwarth Walden, Valentiner, Barlach, Alfred Flechtheim), womit sie großen Erfolg hatte. 1929 Teilnahme an der vom Berliner Verein der Künstlerinnen organisierten Ausstellung Die Frau von heute, im selben Jahr Ausstellung ihrer Arbeiten in New York und in den Folgejahren in den großen Berliner Galerien, z.B. 1930 Flechtheim (gemeinsam mit Renée Sintenis (1888-1965), Marie Laurencin (1883-1956) und Alexandra Exter (1882-1949)). 1933 emigrierte sie nach Italien, 1936 schließlich nach Südafrika, von dort aus Weiterarbeit für Bahlsen und eigene Töpferei. 1939 Brand ihres Johannesburger Ateliers. Bei einem Besuch in Deutschland war durch Kriegsausbruch eine Rückkehr nach Südafrika nicht mehr möglich. Rückzug nach Süddeutschland, 1940 Aufenthalt in einem Sanatorium in Glotterbad, Depressionen und Alkoholsucht, schließlich Krebserkrankung und kurz nach Ende des Krieges Tod im Alter von 49 Jahren.
