Harrington Keene; A Bear Hunt - Man Leading" by Coulson Kernahan; "Sky-Larking on a Bicycle", by Wilf Pocklington; "A Polo Success", by Cuthbert Bradley and "A Day's Rabbit Coursing" by Bachelor. 304 Pages + 16 pages of Publisher's adverts. 8 3/4" Tall, 840g. 4 small holes in cloth, one on the letter "k" in the title and the other 3 on the edge of the spine (see photo). Some foxing to half title page and a little light foxing to title page. Only an occasional spot otherwise. Plates in very nice, clean condition. Three copiously illustrated volumes of the 'Fores's Sporting Notes and Sketches' magazine; uniformly bound in the publisher's charming pictorial gilt embellished red cloth binding. This fascinating quarterly magazine on British, Indian, colonial, and foreign sport was published in twenty nine volumes from 1884 to 1912. This set contains the following volumes: Volume II, published in 1886. Volume VIII, published in 1892. Volume IX, published in 1892. With an extensive publisher's catalogue to the rear of each volume. Collated, complete with thirty two tinted full page plates to each volume. With a small misprint to 'list of illustrations' to volume II, with the plate 'In a moment I had it in my arms' facing page 190, not page 100. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with pictorial gilt and black stamped design to front boards. Externally excellent, with slight fading to spines and bumping to extremities. The odd small marks to boards. Prior owner's bookplate tipped to front pastedown. Front hinges slightly split and strained. Internally firmly bound. Pages slightly age toned to extremities but bright and clean, with the odd spot. Heavy spotting to first and last few pages. Pages occasional creased from previous dog-earing to volume VIII. The occasional pencil inscription by prior owner to the odd page. Very Good Indeed. book.

This volume consists of a series of stories, sketches and songs, descriptive of fishing, hunting, golf, yachting, fishing and with experiences in the field and on the course. Some of these have already been printed in journals such as The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, Glasgow Herald and Country Gentlemen.This volume has twenty-four highly-finished tinted full page lithographic sketches and thirty-four text illustrations by Finch Mason, A. C. Havell, R.M. Alexander, F. Cecil Boult, Cuthbert Bradley.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, a little worn. The spine is faded and rubbed at the joints and bumped to the head and tail. There are a few marks to the boards. Rear hinge is starting but remains firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright clean pages. Good. book.

Four volumes have a few flecks of foxing on the front &/or rear endpapers. Top corner of p.136, vol XVIII missing a 1/2" piece. Otherwise the interiors of texts including plates are in near fine condition. . A very handsome set. Inside the front cover of each volume is the armorial bookplate of WILLIAM DUGALD STUART (Esquire, J. P. For co. Beds. Lieut. Colonel Late Bedford Regiment, formerly King's Royal Rifle Corp born Oct. 18, 1860) with the motto: "Avito viret honore."
