This is the certainty which men still require.' (p. 283) -- `The statement that the `Word was God' is unquestionably a doctrinal statement. This means as a final result that the proclamation Christ is revelation, or Revelation is in Christ throws us back upon Scripture. It is not any Christ Who is revelation. Those who say, Lo, here is Christ, or, Lo, there, are not to be believed unless the Christ Whom they declare is the Christ of the New Testament. It is not the Jesus of History or the Christ of Faith as if there were two distinct beings. The Christ Who is final revelation is not the Christ of subjective experience, nor the Christ of personal encounter, nor the Christ of Church declaration, except in so far as these are identical with the Christ set forth in Scripture. The Christ Who is revelation is the Biblical Christ; no more and no less. This is the Christ Who Himself authenticated this conclusion when `beginning from Moses, and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself'.'
