By casting a fictionalized "Powers Girl" as a sharp, independent sleuth, the book perfectly captured World War II-era shifts toward empowering young female protagonists. During this time of global conflict, the narrative was intentionally crafted to offer teenage readers an inspiring mix of patriotic capability, modern career ambition, and glamorous escapism. Heisenfelt, who specialized in penning thrilling mysteries centered around famous pop-culture figures of the 1940s, expertly structured this particular tale to blend the high-stakes world of commercial photography with a classic wartime home-front mystery. --- General Info: Title: Polly the Powers Model - The Puzzle of the Haunted Camera Author: Kathryn Heisenfelt (Illustrated by Hedwig Jo Meixner & Cover photo (dj) by Ray Barrett) Publisher: Whitman Publishing Company City: Racine, WI Year: 1942 Edition: Authorized Printer: City: USA Series: Whitman Books for Girls / Whitman Girls' Fiction Misc: (w/ original dust cover in good condition [1cm^2 tear on cover and 1cm^2 tear on bottom of spine]) Details: Marginalia: Absent Stamps/Stickers: Absent Bookplates: Absent Binding: Tightly sewn, covered in green immitation leather, Title and publisher and '2375' machine-painted on spine in red Boards: red machine painted title on green imitation leather Paper: thick machine paper unbrightened Rebinding: not Format: Type: Condition(Book: Fine, Dust Jacket: Good): Spine: Perfect Boards: Perfect Joints: Perfect Hinges: Perfect Repairs: small strip of tape holding a tear on the back of the dj front cover Pastedowns: Illustrated and Perfect Title Page: Perfect Paper: age-darkened uniformly to a amber-orange Collation: Perfect Verification: Physical verification: Age, location, price, and publisher analysis of components - No concerns Record verification: Verified against other copies and public metadata - No concerns --- Pricing [NEVER A MARKUP!!]: Fair Value + Insurance Fee + AbeBooks Fee = Final Price $12 + $1 + $3.99 = $16.99 --- Worldwide Shipping Policy: - Shipped with the cheapest reputable carrier - All overages passed down to customer - No media mail for orders >50 years old or >$99 in fair value (media mail is a U.S. discount mail service for books) - All orders expertly packaged - (waterproofing, moisture control, archival wrapping, cushioning) - All orders insured in transit - Signature on receipt for orders >$99 in fair value - Shipping cost includes postage, packaging, and ~15% AbeBooks Fee - $2 packaging fee for single books orders - $5 per box packaging fee for sets --- Storage & Appraisal Policy: - All books are stored in a temperature, humidity, PH, and light controlled, sealed environment, maintained to the highest standard. - All books are appraised in house by a trained conservator, and then stored with great care. - All repairs are disclosed and, if needed, conducted by a trained restorer with the highest quality materials.
