Neben asphärischen Bauteilen werden zunehmend nicht-rotationssymmetrische Geometrien benötigt, die bei technischen Optiken eine gezielte Lichtverteilung erlauben. Beispiele möglicher medizintechnischer Anwendungen reichen von multifokalen Kontaktlinsen bis hin zu angepassten Intraokularlinsen. Die Umsetzung solcher Bauteile erfordert die Entwicklung und den Aufbau von kompakten und preisgünstigen Ultrapräzisionsmaschinen zur Herstellung optischer Freiformflächen. Die Herstellung nicht rotationssymmetrischer Bauteile kann beispielsweise im Drehprozess mit Hilfe einer hochdynamischen Zusatzachse (Fast-Tool) erfolgen [BrecO4a], [BrecO4b], [BrecO4c]. Hierbei stellt die steuerungstechnische Integration des Fast-Tool-Servo-Systems in den Achsverbund der Maschine eine Hauptaufgabe dar.
