Around the world. 8. The global perspective. Acknowledgements. Data resources. Glossary. Far sight is a form of foresight. It is only when one is able to view the earth from a distance far removed from the trappings of local circumstances does the perspective of truth emerge. This is the basic trust underlining all efforts of looking at earth from space. When the Indian programme of earth observation from space was conceived over three decades ago the hunger in the minds of those responsible for it was for the true perspective of our lands waters environment and resources. There were challenges on hand to develop a nation that depended on its environment which was not understood and imaged completely. It was not known as to how resourceful interactive and sustainable was our environment. Thus the vision before the Indian Space Programme was to build facilities that would provide a far sight on the homeland and bear a foresight on its resources and risks. The rapid progress made by the Indian Earth Observation Programme from space has provided new images and a new vision on our common heritage. The combined efforts of several institutions engaged in remote sensing activities have provided a cumulative strength of viewing earth from space. India is now amongst those pioneers who have successfully used space for the peaceful purposes of inventorying monitoring and understanding the natural environment and resources. This volume presents images mostly obtained from India's fleet of satellites in space. It provides a far sight into the awesome diversity of India. It provokes you to bear a foresight and responsibility towards all that we have. Here begins a journey into the rediscovery of India enabled through images from space. 200 pp.

Ajouter au panierTaschenbuch. Etat : Neu. Neuware -Himalaya, one of the global biodiversity hotspots, is the abode of a variety of flora and fauna. The Himalayan ecosystems have immense ecological, socioeconomic, and aesthetic significance as they provide a wide range of ecosystem services. The northwest Himalaya (NWH), covering three states of India viz., Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, starts from the foothills of Shivaliks in the south and extends to the greater Himalaya in the north. This region is also the source of some of the major rivers of India. With the increase in population, the NWH ecosystems have been under threat due to deforestation, loss of biodiversity, expansion of agriculture and settlement, overexploitation of natural resources, habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, mining, construction of roads and large dams, and unplanned tourism. The Himalaya being young and geotectonically active, remains inherently unstable, fragile, and prone to natural disasters. Climate change is also likely to impact the Himalayan cryosphere drastically. Recognizing the importance of the Himalaya, a National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem, one of the eight missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) of Govt. of India, to conserve biodiversity, forest cover and other ecological values in the Himalayan region has been taken up.Spaceborne remote sensing with its ability to provide synoptic and repetitive coverage has emerged as a powerful tool for assessment and monitoring of the Himalayan resources and phenomena. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun has taken up a number of studies in the fields of geology, water resources, forestry, agriculture, urban settlement, etc., over the last decade. The book summarises the work carried out in different disciplines, illustrated with tables and figures and a host of relevant references. It is hoped that the book serves as an excellent reference of immense value to the students, researchers, professors, scientists, professionals, and decision makers working in the NWH region.Springer Verlag GmbH, Tiergartenstr. 17, 69121 Heidelberg 616 pp. Englisch.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Scalar diffraction from a circular aperture is a ubiquitous problem that arises in a variety of disciplines, such as optics (lenses), acoustics (speakers), electromagnetics (dish antennas), and ultrasonics (piston transducers). The problem endures despite centuries of research because each new generation of researchers rediscovers it and adds some novel insight or new result to the existing literature. Scalar Diffraction from a Circular Aperture promises a few new results and several novel insights, particularly with regard to spatial averaging. Although the text emphasizes ultrasonic diffraction, the results and insights developed are general and may be applied to the many practical problems involving scalar diffraction from a circular aperture. Included are novel insights on mirror-image diffraction, autoconvolution diffraction, and coherent and incoherent averaging. Examples from ultrasonic imaging, a coherent imaging modality, are used to develop a fairly general theory that connects over a century of research on scalar diffraction from a circular aperture. The material is based on a synthesis of mathematics, physical optics, linear systems theory, and scalar diffraction theory. Thus, engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and students working in optics, acoustics, antenna design, biomedical engineering, non-destructive testing, and astronomy will find Scalar Diffraction from a Circular Aperture interesting, provocative, and useful.
