First Separate Publication. Originally published in 1837, "The Chase" originally appeared in the London Quarterly Review under the title "On English Fox hunting." Apperley was born at Plasgronow near Wrexham in 1777. From 1805 to 1820 he was primarily occupied by his love for fox-hunting which culminated in his ongoing contributions to the Sporting Magazine. After the death of its owner, Nimrod was taken to court over monies advanced and he fled to Calais to avoid prosecution but was able to live on the earnings from his writings.
