Since 1803 when the first Cornish lifeboat was stationed at Penzance, a great humanitarian work of rescue from shipwreck has been carried on around the coast of the county with unfailing heroism the devotion by the men of this noble service. The story of their work forms a magnificent saga, but one which has so far gone untold and this history of the lifeboat service in Cornwall does belated justice to an undeservedly neglected subject. Based on official R.N.L.I. records, supplemented by information from local sources, it deals in detail with each of the Cornish stations past and present together with a complete check list of services performed. This volume has chapters on Bude, Port Isaac, Padstow, Newquay and Hayle. Ref H6.
