Very scarce work. With a portrait frontispiece. A guide to domestic service intended for the use of young girls who would be leaving school to start their working life in a grand home. With a collection of tips, guides, and stories about the author's experiences as a housekeeper through her life. Written by An Old Servant, a British servant of fifty-two years recorded simply as "M. S.". With a preface from Mary Constance Elphinstone Wemyss, an English novelist who published her work under the name of Mrs George Wemyss. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with small splits in the cloth to the head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting throughout. A small closed tear to pages 97/98. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front endpaper with bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Very Good. book.
