First edition, thus, of this exceedingly scarce sales promotional catalogue for the General Jumbo Balloon Tire issued just as the country began the descent into the Great Depression. The oversize pneumatic tires developed by General Tire were first used on Ford Model T trucks, and Ford Model T's, but quickly proved their durability and by the end of the 1920's were the fastest selling truck tire in the United States. These excellent photo images provide not only references for the many companies that General Tire supplied, but also the tremendous range of truck manufacturers, and commercial advertising many companies sported during the 1920's - 1930's. Truck brands depicted in the album include REO Speedwagon, Mack, American-LaFrance, White, Wichita, Fageol & more. Businesses ranged from Hemingway Bros. a moving company in Providence, RI to Franklin Ice Cream Co. in Minneapolis, MN, along with bread trucks, tankers, cement mixers, and others. Founded in 1915, General Tire & Rubber grew quickly, adding plants in Texas, Kentucky Ohio, & North Carolina, eventually expanding into aerospace, defense contracting, entertainment, tennis ball production and plastics. In 1987, General Tire tire operations were sold to Continental, and later to Continental General Tire. No copies in Worldcat.
