Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Second Edition Revised & Enlarged. A first impression of the revised and enlarged edition, published in 1973. Based on the original 1944 edition. ***With a 16 page introduction by Brendan Gill. ***Very good in blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright. Boards clean and unmarked. No bumps. No tears. Corners sharp. Internally near fine. Pages clean and bright. Spine tight. No tears. No foxing. Although not marked as such, this copy is from the library of leading feminist writer Germaine Greer. There is an interesting annotation which is most likely to be by Germaine Greer on p. xx of the Introduction stating "malicious and probably drunken patronage, especially revolting from a man who devotes one whole line to her [Dorothy Parker's] politics." ***In a very good original printed dustwrapper, with a portrait photograph of Dorothy Parker on the front panel. The dustwrapper is complete without any chips or tears, but there is a closed tear to the spine of the dustwrapper, and another to the back panel. The edges of the dustwrapper are slightly creased due to age and handling. ***192 mm x 130 mm. 610 pages including a two page Publisher's Note, a 16 page Introduction by Brendan Gill, and an Index of Titles of Stories and Poems, and First Lines of Poems at the rear. ***Contents: PART ONE: The Original Portable as Arranged by Dorothy Parker in 1944, PART TWO: Later stories. Reviews and Articles, ***In this definitive collection Dorothy Parker makes her formal bow on this side of the Atlantic, now to be recognized outside as well as inside America as one of the great undeniable twentieth-century classics. None of Dorothy Parker's poems is more then forty lines, none of her stories more than ten thousand words, yet she is no casual miniaturist: her scarifying wit, her wonderful sense of form, her amazingly delicate ear for the inflexions of human speech, her tenderness for lost and unrequited love - all these qualities knit her writings into a consistent body of work that once known is never forgotten, and far transcends the somewhat parochial 1920-50 New York society where it originated.' [Quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***'The Collected Dorothy Parker is the up-to-date edition of the original "Portable Dorothy Parker" which first appeared in 1944 as a volume in the Portable Series published by the Viking Press of New York. Thirty years on, it seems time to give Mrs. Parker a new look, a broader coverage, and an introductory apraisal by a critic of a new generation who can judge her more nearly "sub specie aeterniatis" (in a universal perspective).' [Quote taken from the Publisher's Note] ***A unique copy [originally Germaine Greer's copy] of the definitive revised edition of the Collected Works of Dorothy Parker - printed on nice quality paper. This edition is uncommon. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.***.
