Two volumes. viii, 380 pp; viii, 375, [1, blank] pp. Illustrations on steel and wood by Richard Doyle. 22 plates per volume, plus a frontispiece and title vignette; additional intratextual illustrations throughout. 8vo. 9" x 5-3/4" Spines moderately sunned; light general wear to extremities, with notable bumping to upper corner…of Vol II front board; foxing to beginning and end leaves, and occasionally throughout; occasional faint offsetting from plates. Vol I spine slightly cocked and rear hinge nearly split, though mull is intact and binding is still secure; Vol II lacking the front tissue guard. A solid VG set. Original publisher's blue-green cloth blocked in blind, with gilt lettering stamped to spines and yellow endpapers printed in black First book edition [Wolff 6696a; Sultan Stork p 246; NCBEL Vol 3, p 858].
