Lady Davis is appointed to her post in the first letter from 1993 written by Dorothea Magonet and in the second Peter Shellard allocates her payments to the Alexander Technique Fund. Most interesting is a single manuscript sheet headed 'Shamsi' which appears to be by or about Shamsi's abilities as an exponent of the technique, complete with sketch diagram. Thus 'She's not as good as you at explanations, and in the use of the hands. (A little rough.)' Shamsi Davis was Colin Davis' au pair turned wife with whom the conductor had five children and a long and reputedly fulfilling marriage. She died in 2010.
