Originally published in Chengdu, 1936.; 4to 11" - 13" tall; Mount Omei (also Emei) is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China, located in Sichuan Province. This mountain is famous for its stunning scenery, ancient temples, and rich cultural heritage. A specific section of the ascent up Mount Emei, known for its challenging and winding path is referred to as the 99 turns, or bends. This part of the journey involves navigating numerous sharp turns and steep inclines, making it a physically demanding segment of the pilgrimage or trek. The name "99 Turns" emphasizes the arduous nature of the climb.

The double-page plates begin with a Panoramic View of Mount Omei from the South Gate of Omei-hsien to the Summit, showing all the defiles, watercourses, monasteries, peaks, cliffs, and ancient relics which must be passed. The remaining plates provide a look at each of the 72 monasteries of P'u-hsien, showing the architecture, grounds, paths, etc. The corresponding text, in English and Chinese, provides a detailed walking tour with historical annotations.
