Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. Book Club Edition. A first printing of the Book-of-the-Month Club edition, with the Introduction by Ted Hughes dated August 1980 (from the original trade edition). ***A very good copy in light-grey paper-covered boards with a black cloth spine and white titles. The covers are slightly rubbed and creased at the edges with some scuffing at the top edge of the back board. The boards are otherwise clean and unmarked. Top edge of the spine slightly creased. No reading creases to the spine. No reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. Very light sporadic foxing to the page block edges. No fading. Internally near fine with no inscriptions - just some notes in pencil at the end of the Index. Pages clean. No creases or tears. ***In a very good dustwrapper which is complete without loss. There is some light creasing to the top and tail of the spine, but no other discernible faults. No serious creases, chips or tears. No fading. Dustwrapper bright. ***210mm x142mm. 351 pages including an Index of Titles and First Lines - Poems 1956-1963 at the back of the book. ***Contents: Introduction by Ted Hughes, Poems 1956-1963, Notes on Poems 1956-1963, Juvenilia - A Selection of Fifty Early Poems, Uncollected Juvenilia: A complete list of poems composed before 1956, Index of Titles and First Lines. ***'By the time of her death, on 11 February 1963, Sylvia Plath had written a large bulk of poetry. To my knowledge, she never scrapped any of her poetic efforts. With one or two exceptions, she brought every piece she worked on to some final form acceptable to her, rejecting at most the odd verse, or a false head or a false tail. Her attitude to her verse was artisan-like: if she couldn't get a table out of the material, she was quite happy to get a chair, or even a toy. The end product for her was not so much a successful poem, as something that had temporarily exhausted her ingenuity. So this book contains not merely what verse she saved, but--after 1956--all she wrote. (Quote taken from the Introduction by Ted Hughes) ***A first printing of the 1993 American BOMC edition, which was revised with corrections, of Sylvia Plath's "Collected Poems", edited and introduced by Ted Hughes, in bright collectable condition. A nice copy to have for the Sylvia Plath reader, and uncommon in the UK. Copies of the Collected Poems of Sylvia Plath are hard to find now in hardcover. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.

Ajouter au panierHard Cover. Etat : Nearly New. First Edition. Strange things about this edition. I search by ISBN taken from copyright page in Plath's book, and as a result I get a full reference to Ted Hughes complete poems with all the data about him. About Silvia Plath's First U.S. Edition: Contains everything that celebrated poet Sylvia Plath wrote after 1956, this is one of the most comprehensive collections of her work. Edited, annotated, and with an introduction by Ted Hughes. Searching for online offers for the Harper & Row, First U.S Edition (as in book's copyight). First British edition by Faber & Faber, there are a few results with prices significantly high. Condition: Book unblemished, no writing, full white pages and borders. Dj: Complete, fine outside (just a tinny open tear, but when opened it is yellowing inside). Oddly, there is no price on the dj. Nothing has been cut but no price. Any competing copy offered with so many strange coincidences?
