Paperback. Etat : New. Print on Demand. This book gives a glimpse of literary and theatrical culture in Tyrol from the 17th to 18th century. It covers performance and reception of plays written by Jesuit priests and the evolution of secular, courtly, and folk drama forms, positioning these forms within the broader trends of the Baroque and Enlightenment periods. Specific topics covered include the role of music and processions in sacred dramas, the growing influence of Italian opera on secular works, and connections between German and Austrian playwrights. The author argues that these little-known plays and their performances played a vital role in social and religious life in Tyrol, providing entertainment, moral instruction, and a sense of regional identity during a tumultuous period of European history.
