Werneck (1748-1806) kämpfte in den Revolutions- und in den Napoleonischen Kriegen in der Österreichischen Armee. 1797 wurde er nach dem Vorwurf unterlasserer Gegenmassnahmen gegen den Vorstoß Hoches aus der Österreichischen Armee entlassen. 1805 wurde er wieder in Dienst genommen, kapitulierte aber nach der Schlacht von Ulm auf demütigende Weise gegenüber Murat. Er starb in Erwartung seinen Kriegsgerichtsverfahrens am 17. Jänner 1806. - Dieser Marschbefehl betrifft die Gebiete um den Kreis Limburg in Hessen. Werneck hatte das Kommando eines Armeekorps in Stärke von 33.000 Mann übertragen bekommen, mit welchem er die Front am Niederrhein sichern sollte. Am 18. April 1797 wurden die Österreicher vom Rheinübergang der französischen Truppen bei Neuwied überrascht, Sie verloren 4.000 Mann, 24 Geschützen, 60 Wagen und 5 Fahnen. Die Schlacht bei Neuwied war eine der furchtbarsten Niederlagen die ein österreichisches Armeekorps bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt erlitten hatte! - Der `Marche-Zettel` enthält auch eine Anweisung, was nach Beginn der `Attaque` zu geschehen habe.
