Hardback : hard cover edition, no dust cover jacket, in good clean condition, a typical used book with some slight wear to edges and spine. Firmly readable. As to be expected with used books, there may be some minor bumping, creases, and/or scuffs. Overall a good copy. We appreciate your consideration of one of our books, art prints or novelty items. Defects: Book has a few minor defects. It is old, pages have warm tone from age. And as mention end paper is fragile. About the Author: Philip Morin Freneau (January 2, 1752 December 18, 1832) was an American poet, nationalist, polemicist, sea captain and newspaper editor sometimes called the "Poet of the American Revolution". Through his newspaper, the National Gazette, he was a strong critic of George Washington and a proponent of Jeffersonian policies. This work was the first of the early football rules books to feature diagrams of the game, and is complete with an illustration of the football field and 69 pla…tes diagramming plays. Period ownership inscription on the second front free endpaper, dated 1893. The lineup of the Princeton University football team opposite the inscription. Rubbing to cloth spine, some loss to gilt, soiling to covers. Internally stable, but occasional leaves are in delicate condition. (Grobani, 1-6) A very good example of this scarce work. This work is part of the "American Football Trilogy," the founding documents of the American football game. The other two works include American Football by Walter Camp and Football by Walter Camp and Lorin F. Deland. This first edition of "Scientific and Practical Treatise on American Football" was followed by a second printing from D. Appleton & Company in 1894 and reissued by Finch Press in 1972. The first edition of A Scientific and Practical Treatise on American Football For Schools and Colleges by Amos Alonzo Stagg and Henry L. Williams, published in 1893, part of the "American Football Trilogy." (illustrateur).
