Heritage of Flames: The Illustrated History of Early American Firefighting is a 1977 hardcover reference on the history of early U.S. firefighting, edited by Donald J. Cannon (a professor of history at St. Peter's College, described in a 2005 book as "the standard reference on…early American firefighting"). An interesting snippet about this book: The book is a compilation edited by Donald J. Cannon (listed as "General Editor"), and its illustrations consist of a mix of archival photographs, period engravings, and color reproductions sourced from various historical collections rather than the work of one artist. There are many illustrations to assist the reader in comprehending what has happened in the way of firefighting over several decades and indeed, centuries. This copy is in Fine condition - the actual book appears to have never been used. However, the dust jacket, although present, has seen better days! It has a couple of rips which have been repaired with tape, and is somewhat ragged on the corners - see photos. Howard Pyle and others (illustrateur).
