Good book in pictorial board covers; picture to front shows a young boy with a hoop addressing a pieman; light grey linen strip to spine; corner rubs. Internally good and free of inscriptions; copiously illustrated with text drawings and full colour plates; frontispiece is 'Pat-a-Cake'; some of the colour plates have been re-fixed; text binding tight; no foxing. A very attractive copy of the presumed first edition listed for 1920 although the style of dress on front cover suggests an earlier date. The book was apparently re-issued by Nelson in a slightly different format in 1940.

Very pretty edition in beige cloth with Art Nouveau decorations to both front and spine in black and a colour illustrated paste-down to the front. With a frontispiece and seven further colour plates (as called for) by Olive Allen. From the Told to the Children series. No date but appears Edwardian. Hint of scatted foxing to the prelims and the closed page edges else very clean and neat. Very good copy.
