David Livingstone was on his third, and final expedition to Africa in search of the source of the Nile."While journeying along the southern shores of Lake Malawi his companions deserted him and returned to the coast with a plausible but fabricated tale of his murder by marauding Ngoni.The Royal Geographical Society [sponsors of the expedition] remained unconvinced of the varacity of the murder report. Lieutenant Young, who had been with Lvingstone on his second expedition to Lake Malawi in 1863, volunteered to lead an expedition sponsored by the society to ascertain the truth of the allegation. This book, first published in London in 1868, is his narrative of the search for the missionary." Limited edition of 750 numbered copies of which this is number 245. Royal Navy Lieutenant E. D. Young went to Africa in search of David Livingstone who had been reported to be lost while searching for the origins of the Nile. Henry Faulkner joined the expedition mainly to hunt. His shooting of elephant, buffalo and hippo in what is now Malawi and around Lake Nyasa are included in this volume. The author had been with Lvingstone on his second expedition to Lake Malawi in 1863 and volunteered to lead an expedition to determine whether the allegation of Livingstone's murder were true. A pleasing copy of this scarce volume relating to Livingstone. Size: 8vo.
