He wrote: "I find that the proposition often reduces itself to this that if the Labour Party would drop its socialism and adopt a Liberal platform, many Liberals would be pleased to support it. I have heard it said more than once that if Labour would only drop its policy of nationalisation everyone would be pleased, and it would soon obtain a majority. I am convinced it would be fatal for the Labour Party. This account of the early days and growth of the Labour party by one of its prime minister's. Taft (1889 1953) served as a United States Senator representing Ohio from 1939 until his death. Known for his conservative stance, Taft was part of the influential Taft political family and was the elder son of William Howard Taft, the 27th President of the United States. Taft sought the republican nomination for president in 1940, 1948 and 1952, eventually losing to General Dwight D. Eisenhower.
