Robin MacLachlan is a Scottish composer and music educator who has been active in writing pedagogical piano music aimed primarily at younger students and those in the earlier stages of learning the instrument. His work in educational music reflects a concern with producing pi…eces that are musically interesting and characterful while remaining technically manageable for developing pianists. His compositions in this area have been used in teaching contexts and have appeared in various graded music examination syllabuses, which has helped bring his work to a wider audience of students and teachers. Climbing is one of his educational piano pieces written with beginner or early intermediate students in mind. As the title suggests, the piece is built around a musical idea that evokes the sensation of ascending, and this concept is reflected directly in the melodic and structural design of the music.
