This is the original sheet music--the covers only, for Deep In My Heart, Dear, from "The Student Prince in Heidelberg", a "stupendous musical production" produced by Mssrs Shubert which premiered at Jolson's 59th Street Theatre in 1924. The music was released before the play was cast, so there are no names on the music cover, as there normally would be. And the producer and stage manager's names were added after the piece was printed. By the time it hit the stage, the name was "The Student Prince" and it starred Howard Marsh. The Student Prince is an operetta in four acts with music by Sigmund Romberg and lyrics by Dorothy Donnelly, who also wrote the stageplay. It is based on the 1901 play Old Heidelberg by Wilhelm Meyer-Forster. It opened on December 2, 1924, at Jolson's 59th Street Theatre on Broadway. The show was the most successful of Romberg's works, running for 608 performances, the longest-running Broadway show of the 1920s. It was staged by the famed J. C. Huffman, on behalf of the Shuberts. The operetta was revived twice on Broadway, in 1931 and 1943. Ernst Lubitsch made a silent film of it, starring Ramon Novarro and Norma Shearer. In 1954, MGM made a biographical musical about Romberg. Deep in My Heart starred Jose Ferrer and Merle Oberon, and featured cameos by nearly every significant singer or dancer on the MGM lot at the time?Cyd Charisse, Rosemary Clooney, Vic Damone, Howard Keel, Gene Kelly, Ann Miller, Jane Powell etc. Deep in My Heart was the final film in a series of four MGM biopics based on the lives of composers, which included Till the Clouds Roll By (Jerome Kern, 1946), Words and Music (Rodgers and Hart, 1948), and Three Little Words (Kalmar and Ruby, 1950). 4 pages, with various bits of music inside (see photos). Condition is frail. But, if you want to frame it, any flaws can be masked and/or repaired by a competent framer. NOTE: I have a lot of sheet music listed here.
