One kilogram unpacked - depending on destination, additional postage may be requested! From the suthor's Introduction: "The need to document the creation and development of Armstrong's Point as an urban entity is the reason for this history. Earlier works have examined various aspects of the Point's history for a variety of reasons. Judge R.D. "Doc" Guy's 1984 booklet, 'Early Armstrong's Point', made a start at the Point from an historical and social viewpoint. Dr. Sarah Carter in the 'Armstrong's Point: Victorian Suburb in the Heart of Winnipeg' (1988) did an overview of Point history in relation to events within Winnipeg. Other studies have examined singular aspects of Point history such as Murray Peterson's histories of various houses and the Cornish Library; the present author's work on one of the Point's most noteworthy features -- the Gates; and the vibrant writings of Lillian Gibbons during her long career at the Winnipeg Tribune. To this may be added Pat Thomson's work on the Cornish Library, as well as an excellent book on 54 West Gate by the Friends of Ralph Connor House, The preceding literature has offered a documentation of Point history as seen from various angles and purposes. None have examined Armstrong's Point from its growth as a realty subdivision and its relation to architectural and socail aspects. This history will use 'Crescentwood: A History' as its inspiration and model in documenting the history of the Point. A somewhat modified version of the Crescentwood format if necessary for the Point, where one is dealing with a simpler realty history in order to give more emphasis to the social and architectural details. With that in mind, the history of Armstrong's Point will be examined on an almost decade-vy-decade basis to demonstrate the rise of the Point, its integration into Winnipeg, and highlights of each building's history which has added its particular ambience to the area."
