Hardback in blue cloth, with gilt lettering to spine. Original unclipped Dust Jacket. Overall Very Good condition. Stain to reverse Dust Jacket, top spine is slightly crumpled. Hardback in Very Good condition too, save for minor bumping along edges, and minor traces of shelf wear. This is the 2nd of three volumes of the Diaries of John Ruskin. They cover the greater part of his life, and were never published up until this point. They are full of the acute observation that made him one of the great Victorian word-painters, with a freshness and spontaneity that sometimes dis-appeared in his published work. The greater number of the original manuscripts were acquired by the late Mr. J. Howard Whitehouse in 1931, and these form the basis of the present edition, with additions from manuscripts in the Yale University Library and from other sources. Their text forms an essential basis for any study of Ruskin's development.
