This reprint has a long introduction concerning Clemens Herschel and the history of the original manuscript and its publication. Pages somewhat rippled, otherwise very good, clean copy. Browsing the autobiography of Robert Ridgway (1940), a civil engineer who worked on constructing the water tunnels serving New York City, we came across a reference to Frontinus. Ridgway wrote of reading Herschel's original edition and found Frontinus' managerial approach of value to his own work, nearly two millennia later. Many say water will be the resource issue of the coming century, so reading up on Frontinus may be of more than antiquarian interest.
