Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the Liberal Wars, the author chronicles the rise and fall of this controversial monarch, whose authoritarian rule was marked by civil war, international intrigue, and the suppression of political dissent. The author delves into the complex historical context of D. Miguel's reign, examining the political and social forces that shaped his ascent to power. The book explores the ideological clash between absolutism and liberalism that fueled the conflict, and the role of foreign intervention in shaping the outcome of the war. Beyond its historical narrative, this book also offers insights into the character and motivations of D. Miguel. The author draws on firsthand accounts and archival research to reveal the inner workings of the royal court, shedding light on the personal ambitions and political machinations that drove the king's actions. Ultimately, this book provides a nuanced understanding of a pivotal period in Portuguese history, offering fresh perspectives on the complexities of power, the fragility of monarchies, and the enduring legacy of political conflict. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
