Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good Plus. Very Good Minus. Hardback Book with Dust Jacket. Hardback Book itself is in Very Good Plus condition with a tight binding and clean crisp pages. Inside text actually appears to be Unused and Unread! The back few pages have bent bottom tips to those pages, but the pages are complete. On the first… end page there is a short inscription neatly written at the top of the page that says, "Edward Romine Christmas Aunt Avis"- but again I do not believe that "Edward" ever read this book or "Aunt Avis"! There is also a scuff mark on this page in the upper right hand corner where it appears a price sticker was removed. No other writing or markings inside or outside of the book. Outside cloth covers are very nice to include the outside corners and edges! Dust Jacket is in Very Good Minus condition with some edge chipping primarily to the outside spine. Also there is a small missing piece out of the top edge of the back cover. Dust Jacket is NOT price clipped (195/195) and is now covered by a new clear mylar cover. Book has come from a private collection. This is a less common title in the Landmark series. Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting.

Addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'Mrs. Scott Moncrieff | 7 Fores Stt. | Edinb.' Docketted on same page: '27 July 1833 | R S M | announcing Joanna's birth'. The letter begins: 'My dearest Mother | I beg t…hat you wd. send for your best specks, and after cleaning them up and assembling all the sad lieges within reach read to them as follows - that you had a most promising young lady added to the numbers of your progeny at three oclock this morning, who with her mama are doing as well as possible. No doubt she did seem to feel a little disappointed that dear Grandmama Scott was not here to welcome her arrival which it is thought had been delayed on purpose that she might come out - but the explanation given was but too satisfactory, and her only wish (if she has one) is that you would take great care of yourself so as to be able soon to come out & have a croon with her'. He continues with a description of the birth and of his subsequent activities with his 'laddies'. The daughter would marry General J. A. Ballard, by whom she would have the future Royal Navy admiral George Alexander Ballard (1862-1948).
