Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Good. Etat de la jaquette : No Dust Jacket. First Edition. Library stamps/marks/labels/pocket residue/slip, edgeworn, both hinges tape reinforced, tone, wear. Solid hardcover.; Posthumously published memoir of Woodrow Wilson's Ambassador to France William Graves Sharp. Sharp was confirmed just before the outbreak of World War One, and arrived in Paris as the First Battle of the Marne saved the city from the advancing German army. Sharp remained in Paris throughout the war, his memoirs conveying his support for the French nation, and rejoicing when the United States entered the war. He remained on post until shortly after the Armistice, returning to the United States in 1919. He wrote this memoir after his return, and died shortly thereafter in 1922. The memoir highlights French resilience, the task of maintaining American neutrality before its 1917 entry, and the decisive nature of the arriving American army on the war, blending official views with personal reflections of wartime diplomacy. ; War-Memoirs and War History; Ex-Library; xxvii, 431 pages.
