Some brittleness to the glue on a couple of sections in the middle of the book, with slight page block irregularities. 246 numbered pages. Fiction, Illustrated, Antiquarian.

Frontispiece and 18 other b/w illustrations by Charles S. Reinhart. TEG. Bound in dark green woven cloth with a decorated cover. The front cover is decorated with a thin border of triple gold lines and, on the upper half of the cover, a similar border within which there is a small panel stamped in red, black, and gold with the image of the novel's heroine, Tom Grogan, who stands in her red coat dramatically clutching a paper (a deed?). This image is very finely stamped. To the side is the cover lettering in gold. The spine lettering is also in gold. On the inside cover of this copy is the bookplate of James B. Pond, the lecture manager for Mark Twain and many other 19th and early 20th century authors. The endpapers and pages are somewhat age-toned around the edges. The spine is very slightly faded and the gold not as bright as on the front cover, which is in fine, bright condition. A handsome copy.
