A very scarce work.Sumptuously bound by Zaehnsdorf.Original wraps are bound in.Seven pages of adverts to the rear.A catalogue of an exhibition held at the Royal Institute o…f Painters in Water Colours, Piccadilly, in June 1889.Illustrated with ninety-six full-paged illustrations, depicting some of the works exhibited.The exhibition was titled 'English Humourists in Art', exploring the art of caricaturists and satirical artists.Artists included in this exhibition were William Hogarth, Thomas Rowlandson, James Gillray, George Cruikshank, William Makepeace Thackeray, Phiz, John Leech, Randolph Caldecott, and more.Bookplate of Charles Plumptre Johnson to the front paste down. Johnson was the son of the Physician-Extraordinary to Queen Victoria. Himself he was known as a yachter, owning a fine fleet of modern yawls, including the 'Moonbeam'. His impressive library extended to some 6,000 volumes.Bookplate of W. A. Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey to the recto of the front endpaper.Collated, complete. In a half crushed morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards, bound by Zaehnsdorf. Externally, fine. Bookplate to the front paste down and to the recto of the front endpaper.
