Printed hardcover with brown cloth spine, 6.25" tall, 26, 395, [1] pages, including a five page separate listing for "people of color". Covers heavily worn and spotted, binding strip and endpapers possibly replaced at some point in the early 20th century, hinges lightly cracked but secure, text block sound, pages age-darkened but clean, modern name and address stamp in blue at the top of the first page of the advertising section and at the bottom of the final page, map foxed and with numerous old repairs to the reverse side using clear paper tape, some additional separation along fold lines, but complete. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.

Later 1/4 cloth, front board detached, binding worn and rubbed. [1], 26, 376 pp. Lacks map. Ex-library from two different institutions. There is a bookplate from Columbia University with a withdrawal stamp inside front cover and a much older rubber stamp on the title page from the Boston Athenaeum. Many fine ads at the front. Contains 53 pages of information about streets, banks, public officials, etc. Pages 372-376 lists "People of Color". There are listings of some businesses and organizations, along with a directory of streets, but there are no advertisements. Spear p.51.

Etat : Good +. Boston: Charles Stimpson, 1832. First Edition. Hand-colored map (22x36cm) folded down into original gilt-tooled maroon morocco binding (8x6.5cm). Map quite fragile with extensive splitting and occasional old tape repairs along verso folds though image is complete; light rubbing to leather margins, else a Good, still bright example of this scarce little map of Boston.

Later cloth, with original front paper cover laid down. Folding map frontis published by Stimpson in 1837. 14, 414 [misprinted as 314] pp. Inner hinge cracked, text clean and Very Good. With the information contained in the title, plus advertisements and the folding map. A separate directory for 'People of Color', with addresses and occupations, is at pages 409-414. Spear 52.
