This collection includes four works by American novelist and essayist William Styron (1925-2006), including his acclaimed but controversial account of Nat Turner's rebellion--for which he won the Pulitzer Prize--and the ground-breaking "Darkness Visible," an account of Styron's struggle with depression. In the words of ANB, Styron's "empathetic portrayals of human suffering and moral transgression, skillfully told from multiple points of view, explored universal themes, transcending even national boundaries, and established him as a major writer of the postwar era." Styron was also the author of "Sophie's Choice," his final novel, which became an Academy Award-winning film. The volumes included in this collection are: 1) CONFESSIONS OF NAT TURNER. Publisher's black cloth with lettering on spine and upper cover in gold, silver, and orange, top edge dyed red. In the original bright red dust jacket (spine a little faded, small tear with slight loss at head of spine, a couple of faint creases near edges). Half-title SIGNED AND INSCRIBED: "For Janet, best wishes, William Styron." An excellent copy with just very slight fading to edges of cloth and a couple of trivial marks internally. 2) SHADRACH. With an old bookseller's description taped onto pastedown. Very slight soiling to the cloth, gilt a little worn, but internally pristine. 3) THIS QUIET DUST & OTHER WRITINGS.
