All present as listed. Many shields and other pedigrees within the text. The second hald of the book (Museum catalogue) was edited by Thomas Dunham Whitaker. The last two pages are hanging on by a single thread. The rest of the volume is well sewn. Chipping to page edges of last two pages. A complete work without boards or endpapers - suitable for rebinding or as a working reference copy. Nb heavy book (4kg) expensive to post overseas.

A modern (?1970s) amateur binding but presenting quite well. Some damage to joint betwen frontispiece and title page in "Ducatus" volume. Some spotting etc to plates but generally very good very sound texts. Previous owner assured collation was correct but ONLY offered for sale AS IS. WITH INSPECTION RECOMMENDED. Not available overseas.

The boards show some moderate edge wear but generally in good condition. Loidis and Elmete includes frontispiece of Whitaker, 404 pages, an appendix of 88 pages, 53 portraits and plates (2 in colour), 21 illustrations in the text and 17 pedigrees. Ducatus Leodiensis has frontispiece of Thoresby with 10 plates, 3 text illustrations and 13 pedigrees, 261 pages and Musaeum Thoresbyanum (catalogue of the antiquities). Published in 1816 as 2nd edition both volumes are in good to very good condition. Further information readily available if required.

The original edition of this book, in 1715, justified Thoresby's membership in the Royal Society, and displayed his erudition on Englands's Roman antiquities and coins (many of which are depicted here). Thoresby also owned a broad collection of "curiosities", from incunables to medical anomalies, which was ranked second only to Tradescant. In this edition, the continuation of the Pedigrees was principally done by Christopher Bolland, and the additions to Part 2, "Musaeum Thoresbyanum", detail items added after 1715 to the time of the collections dispersal. Also includes a Life of Thoresby, who has been called the First Historian of Leeds. The frontispiece is a mezzotint portrait of Thoresby, with an engraved view of Leeds by J. Le Keux, and a portrait of John Harrison, & 8 other engravings of views and coins or antiquities, and also dozens of heraldic devices.Includes a lengthy poem about John Thoresby by Theodore Bathurst.
