Dust jacket rubbed; spine head nicked with slender color fading at heel; very faint moisture staining discernable along bottoms of both color pictorial panels and spine but easily evident on dj's blank reverse side; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. Brown boards; slight bumping at spine ends. Author's long nine-line black felt tip ink inscription upon the title page: "To Abel, | My dear friend and | a man who will dig | the chord changes | on every page in | this book --- | Thanks, | Dempsey Travis | 10-31-83." Interior pages are clean. Binding is firm. A near fine copy in a very good- dust jacket. This book was acquired from a Tuscaloosa, Alabama estate which, by some unknown connection, featured several books with the bookplates of Chicago business executive and renowned book collector Abel E. Berland (1915-2010) and thus Dempsey's inscription can be safely attributed to the same individual. Berland's life-long bibliophilia led to long-standing memberships in the Caxton, Roxburghe, and Grolier Clubs and Christie's October 2001 auction of 446 premier titles from Berland's collection realized over $14 million.
