On date le plus souvent son existence au IIIe siècle, mais certains la place au IVe siècle. On ne sait presque rien de sa vie. Il est l'auteur d'un Abrégé des histoires Philippiques (Epitoma Historiarum Philippicarum en latin), un ouvrage qu'il présente dans sa préface comme un florilège des passages les plus importants et les plus intéressants du volumineux ouvrage intitulé Historiae philippicae et totius mundi origines et terrae situs, rédigé par Trogue Pompée à l'époque d'Auguste.L'oeuvre de Trogue Pompée ne nous est connue qu'à travers le fameux abrégé réalisé par Justin de ses Philippiques, qui traite de tous les pays conquis par Alexandre Le Grand.
