An unpaginated homage to French culture celebrating the Entente Cordiale on the occasion of George VI and Queen Elizabeth to France in the year before the outbreak of World War II. A tour de force of the printer's art by maitre-imprimeur Georges Lang who records that it was produced in 20 days in a limited edition of 1,000 of which this is number 851. Printed in grey and black on high quality paper with card boards covered with the original glacine tissue and bound in a folding slip case of natural buckram and imitation vellum. The work contains an introduction by Edouard Daladier, then Prime Minister of France, an encomium by Paul Clodel, black and white photographs of traditional France by Mme Laure Albin-Guillot, an essay on Anglo-French amity by Andre Maurois, illustrated essays on French art, sculpture, painting, French taste and hospitality, technology and the Colonial Empire with 3 decorative cartoon maps by J. Labasque et al. This copy is unopened, some foxing of Daladier and Clodel pieces and margins throughout but not affecting title pages, plates etc. Some of the green colour of the case has migrated to the glacine creating minor stains. Cover dust stained. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
