Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Near Fine. 1st Edition. The author was a pharmacist, a physician, and a professor of forensic medicine at the University of Vienna. His monumental work can be considered one of the most demanding and spectacular pieces of botanical literature of the time, with its approximately 1200 beautiful, hand-colored copperplate illustrations. The images are the work of the Viennese engraver Ignaz Albrecht (the more famous Ignaz Alberti is often mentioned in the literature, but he died in 1794). The additional volume is attributed to Joseph Lorenz Kendl. The unparalleled rarity of the work is indicated by the fact that, according to the Natural History Museum in London, they own the only copy among British public collections, and three such copies are known in the USA (two of which are incomplete). We have not found any trace of the complete series of international auction shortages, and even the largest auction houses have only put the missing pieces under the hammer. The second volume restored and got a new binding with a missing engraved title page.
