Ajouter au panier1652, The Hague, manuscript (Dutch), 1 folded leaf, 3 pp., in a white wrapper inside a blue folder. This manuscript is from the collection of A. Hielkema (Leeuwarden). He provided the manuscript with a description of the content and a full transcription. This manuscript provides legal advice concerning the payment of an autopsy on a drowned child. A. van Berckeloo (subsititute "dijkgraaf") states the father of the child should pay for this. The legal scholars advise against this demand.

Ajouter au panierFine examples of 18th-century calligraphy in a collection of 3 prize books written between 1753 and 1756. The albums contain a total of 35 examples written in Dutch and French by two Dutch students. The works each contain many different texts, all calligraphed with a narrow-pointed pen in different styles, and beautifully embellished with decorative initials and pen flourishes. Remarkable examples are the 2 lines calligraphed in the shape of 2 W's at the end of the 1753 work by Willem Walbeek, or his letter to a Mr. Jan Danville asking for money. The present albums containing calligraphy examples already have the appearance of a writing master's copy-book, produced by 16-year-old Willem Walbeek and his younger brother(?) Frans to demonstrate their proficiency. The works are folded in half. The marbled paper wrappers show clear signs of wear, including some browning, the edges of the leaves are frayed, the back wrappers of ads 1 and 2 are torn in half (detached but still present). Ad 2 has a large water stain throughout, without affecting the clarity of the writing, and some leaves show bleeding or offsetting of the ink. Nevertheless, the writing and illustrations remain clearly legible. A remarkable collection of 3 mid-18th-century calligraphy manuscripts by 2 Dutch students.l Cf. DBNL, Algemeen letterkundig lexicon: kalligrafie, 2012. Contemporary marbled paper wrappers. With the same hand drawn illustration of 2 putti holding a laurel wreath on the title-pages of ads 2 and 3, and an ink drawing of a compass (drawing instrument, or other measuring instrument) as part of a calligraphic exercise also in ads 2 and 3. Ajouter au panierA carefully planned and skilfully executed calligraphic copy-book, including a calligraphic title-page and colophon. Although it was made by a student, Willem Walbeek, over a period of 2½ months in one academic year, it is not merely a daily exercise book. It has the appearance of a writing master's copy-book and Walbeek probably produced and presented it to demonstrate his mastery. Most of the texts on the rectos are 2- to 4-line proverbs and aphorisms in verse, some about penmanship, other of a religious or moral nature. Most of the examples are executed in a round-hand sloped cursive script, with a few in upright cursive, roman capitals (occasionally with some minuscules), textura, fraktur and some decorative gothic hands. With two leaves removed (possibly by Walbeek himself), the ink shows through on most leaves, there are some water stains, and the head of the loosely inserted leaf is tattered, but the calligraphic samples are otherwise in good condition. The spine of the wrapper is tattered. A manuscript copy-book produced by a talented young student. Contemporary decorated paper wrappers (block-printed flower pattern with a dotted background), sewn without supports through three holes, perhaps originally coloured in calico but now faded. Manuscript calligraphic copy-book with Dutch texts (except for the French title-page and colophon), written in black ink on laid paper, with a calligraphic title-page followed by 43 pages of calligraphic examples on 23 leaves, the back of the title-page, the last page and 2 other versos blank, with the right-hand page of each double-page spread showing 3 or 4 short texts, mostly in rhymed verse, as examples of different sizes and styles of calligraphy with decorative flourishes and sometimes alphabets; and the left-hand page generally showing a single example filling the page, mostly in landscape format with only one or small number of words in a large script flourished with command-of-hand demonstrations. On 4 pages the flourishes form pictorial images (birds, humans or semi-humans). An additional loosely inserted leaf has one additional full-page example, also by Walbeek. Pages: [1], [1 blank], [45], [1 blank] pp. plus 1 loosely inserted leaf.…
