Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. This volume (& accompanying exhibition) represents, first and foremost, the Fowler Museum @ UCLA's continuing engagement with the growing body of work by filmmaker/photographer Larry Yust. Building on an earlier exhibiiton, the current project widens the lens to capture the walls and streets not just of Southern California but also of Paris and Berlin. At the same time, however, its focus is narrowed in order to concentrate on very specific elements of urban visual culture, namely graffiti murals, and other forms of largely unauthorized marking. Yust's elevations of what we refer to collectively as 'street art' address a topic that is both sensational and sensitive, towards provoking meaningful conversations about a 'genre' that, while very much on our minds today, has its origins in antiquity. Color illustration throughout include several foldouts. 100p.

Graffiti is a forceful way of inscribing presence or "being" in the world as well as a means of creating affective links to the potency of natural wonders, religious shrines, and ancient ruins as well as the contemporary cityscape. The photographic elevations presented in this volume represent a graffiti-punctuated pilgrim's progress built around the aesthetics of defacement. Graffiti- and mural-covered walls, buildings, automobiles, and railcars are the artful wonders, the vibrant shrines, and the dynamic ruins that structured Larry Yust's pilgrimage to some of the most famed metropolitan centers of the world. He has brought back panoramic souvenirs; vistas that let us be there in a way that is perhaps better than being there. This book celebrates the artistry and audacity of the taggers and uncommissioned muralists who decorate and deface contemporary cities.

Ajouter au panier[Cinema] An oriignal U.S. advance style one-sheet poster for the 1974 satirical comedy horror film directed and co-written by Larry Yust. Approx. dimensions 41 x 27 inches, landscape format (will be despatched rolled, in tube). Folded, some toning to folds, minor edge wear. Very good indeed. The advance poster features illustrated art while the main campaign poster shows a photo montage of the pensioners. The film centers on a group of elderly residents in a Cincinnati tenement building who resort to murder when their building is condemned in the wake of urban redevelopment. Met with criticism at the time of its release for its explicit violence, though several reviewers praised its performances and technical attributes, as well as its social commentary on urban displacement, corporate greed, and mistreatment of the elderly.
