Single-sided typescript-style leaves paged as [2], 1-38. Bound by slightly rusted metal fastener; paperback approx. H 11.5cm x L 20.5cm. Varied toning and some soiling to leaves; handwritten ink note present on page 3; edge-wear particularly at bottoms of first several leaves; front cover title page has pencil signature "Lt. Col. Henderson" at top right. Also included are several folded leaves (some loose, some stapled) which seem to be plans for training exercises held at Camp Irwin, California in August 1944; also with four pages of handwritten notes and a hand-drawn map (perhaps all by Lt. Col. Henderson?). Also included is a foldout map and compass training brochure (H 12.25 x L 11cm) predominately printed in yellow and black with two particularly insightful comments - "An azimuth is not something you sit on" and "To be 'oriented' you don't become a Jap" - with the former being condescending to the not-to-well educated recruit and the latter reflecting the endemic anti-Asian racism of the WWII years. Items original owner was Alpheus Lester Henderson, 1896-1986, who rose to the rank of U.S. Army brigadier general and was a veteran of both world wars. During WWII he commanded the 101st Coast Artillery Battalion Antiaircraft and was post-war Provost Marshal of Yokohama where he had charge of General Tojo. This item was acquired from the Tupelo, Mississippi estate of his adopted daughter Diane Evans Henderson Tannehill, 1932-2012.…
