Yiddish sheet music for the violin. A quintessentially melancholy air such as particularly associated with Yiddish music. The music notation is presented on a single page -- seven lines of musical notation -- with the lyrics on the back cover of the glossy folded sheet, not paginated, but four pages, including the front cover. The cover has artwork in the vein of Rococo fantasy such as one finds on Church walls and ceilings. The Yiddish title is presented in Hebrew characters first, and Roman letters well below. The second page carries a listing of the Hebrew Publishing Company's other violin music publications. The music was copyrighted in 1897 and issued then by a different publisher. Hebrew Publishing Company was formed in the very early 20th Century -- Wikipedia doesn't furnish consistent information on this as to the actual year. The air was almost certainly well-known on the Lower East Side and other Jewish immigrant communities of the early twentieth century. Based on OCLC First Search, there were a minimum of three different editions of the music published. Taken altogether, there is fairly sparse institutional listings, five in all, and only two of this edition, which appeared between the three listings. We could find none in commerce of the date of this listing. Light wear.…
