The specially taken photographs by Carsten Krohn, together with the historic photographs and plans from the Hans-Scharoun-Archive offer a new overview of this expressive organic architecture. ; Hans Scharoun (1893-1972) kann sicher als einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Architekten des 20. Jahrhunderts gelten. Als Vertreter der organischen Architektur strebte er danach, die Form eines Gebäudes aus dessen Funktion gewissermaßen 'erwachsen' zu lassen.Seine Bauten umfassten Einfamilienhäuser, mehrgeschossigen Wohnungsbau und öffentliche Bauten, darunter Ikonen der Stadt wie etwa die Philharmonie in Berlin (1956-63), der Neubau der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin (1964-78) oder auch das Botschaftsgebäude der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in Brasilia, Brasilien. Das Buch dokumentiert in Wort und Bild sämtliche etwa 50 realisierten Bauten Scharouns. Die neuen Fotografien Carsten Krohns werden ergänzt durch historische Fotos und Pläne. Eine ausführliche Einleitung arbeitet die Bedeutung Scharouns als Architekt sowohl für seine Zeitgenossen, als auch für die heutige Architektur heraus. Ein Beitrag der Leiterin des Baukunstarchivs der Akademie der Künste in Berlin befasst sich mit dem ungebauten Werk Scharouns.

Neuware -This book examines a new type of state formation evoked by the rise of transnational rule, what Schia calls franchised states. Drawing on anthropological studying-through fieldwork within the UN organization, he demonstrates how peacebuildi…ng activities turned Liberia into an object of governing, whereby the UN, in seeking to build the state, also became the state. The sovereign state of Liberia here emerges as a franchise rather than a self-contained entity. Two implications follow: First, that international peacebuilding turns post-conflict countries into clients of the international community. Second, that 'sovereignty' is no longer exclusively associated with the state: it is organized in and through specific practices of governing where a state actor is only one among a range of actors. With these findings, the book moves beyond previous work on peacebuilding by focusing on the unbundling of sovereignty. Apart from its extreme age and almost complete lack of fossil remains, for a long time the tectonics that affected the whole area presented a real challenge, as horst and graben structures added to the difficulty of geological correlations. Despite being 700 Ma old, most of the physical-chemical properties of the sediments have remained unchanged. Peirce's concept of iconic signs is treated in depth, and it is shown how Peirce's diagrammatic logical notation of Existential Graphs makes use of iconicity and how important features of this iconicity are representable within category theory. Alain Badioüs set-theoretical model of truth procedures and his relational sheaf-based theory of phenomenology are then integrated within the Peircean logical context. Finally, the book opens the path towards a more naturalist interpretation of the abductive models developed in Peirce and Badiou through an analysis of several recent attempts to reformulate quantum mechanics with categorical methods.
