Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A very rare handmade, letter-press, silk-screened book by noted artist/photographer/writer Don Herron. No marks, tears, or dog-ears. Book is tight. Previous owner's bookplate is pasted inside front cover. The cream-colored, heavy cloth cover is in near fine condition - no stains or corner bumping. The illustrations are similar to some from his 1971 Jenkins Press book, THE SARIM. XX Describing the angels he has depicted in this book, Herron wrote: "… I have disregarded the concept of many of these creatures and have tried to show through color, symbols, and illustrations my feelings of how they would appear. Their appearance in this book is often not based upon literary descriptions, but rather upon my own ideas and conceptions." XX Adam Donaldson Powell wrote a tribute to Herron upon the latter's death in 2013. "Don was an accomplished visual artist (silk screen prints, painting and photography) and later worked as a writer/journalist as well. During our years together he created the now infamous "Tub shots" series, featuring many personalities of the day from San Francisco and New York City, including: Robert Mapplethorpe, Jackie Curtis, Belle de Jour, Bob Opal, John Kelly, Holly Woodlawn, Charles Busch, Ellen Stewart, Peter Hujar, Cassandra, Paula Sequeira, Keith Haring and many more." XX His bio in Newburgh Restoration, Jan 3, 2013: Born in Brenham, Texas to Johanna and Lawrence Herron on September 8, 1941. … Don graduated from Brenham High in 1959 and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He received a B.A. and an M.F.A. in 1972 from the University of Texas at Austin where he later taught studio courses. He also taught at Castle Hill Art Center in Truro, Massachusetts. Moving to San Francisco later that year, Don began photographing people in their bathtubs, having been inspired by medieval sculptures set in niches. Largely self-taught in photography, his work has been widely published in the United States and Europe in publications such as New York Magazine, The Village Voice, and Art Forum. After moving to New York City in 1978, Don became part of the vibrant East Village art scene of the 1970's and 80's and continued his bathtub series expanding his subject matter from the original visual artists to the performing artists. Don's work has been collected by the Chrysler Museum, The NYNEX Corporate Collection, the Aldrich Museum, The Walter P. Chrysler collection and the museums of the Universities of Texas, Louisiana, Toronto and Bucknell. Herron, Don (illustrateur).…
