This volume documents the Tibetan Buddhist bronzes housed in the Imperial Palace (Forbidden City) in Beijing. Unlike collections in Tibet itself, these statues were often imperial commissions or diplomatic gifts sent to the Ming and Qing emperors by the Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas. Key Features: The Collection: Features approximately 260 statues of gold and copper, selected from the museum's vast holdings. Imperial Provenance: many pieces bear inscriptions dating them to specific reigns (e.g., Yongle, Xuande, Qianlong), providing benchmarks for dating other Sino-Tibetan art. Language: Mostly in Chinese. The scholarly essays and descriptions are in Chinese, but the captions (titles and dates of the objects) are in English, making it usable for non-Chinese speakers for identification purposes. Quarto (Large Format). ~270 pages. Glossy pictorial dust jacket. Near fine condition.
